SAFARI

Tanzania is home to the ultimate dream safari

In fact, it was recently voted the #1 safari destination in Africa. Fully one-quarter of its land has been dedicated to wildlife parks and conservation area.

Tanzania is Africa’s safari diversity hotspot, and connoisseurs keep coming back year after year, discovering new wonders with each trip. You could spend the rest of your safaris in Tanzania and never exhaust all the spectacular sights!

The Great Wildebeest Migration (featured prominently on many people's "bucket list"!) takes place for a longer period in Tanzania’s Serengeti than in Kenya’s Maasai Mara. In fact, Serengeti is many times the size of the Maasai Mara. If you love seeing primates in their natural habitat, come enjoy the best chimp viewing to be found anywhere, at Mahale, the vast Selous, extremely remote Katavi, or the less visited Ruaha, Tarangire, and Manyara reserves. Kilimanjaro is of course Africa's iconic snowy peak, observable from many parts of both Kenya and Tanzania. Ngorogoro Crater offers a wonderfully different viewing experience – from inside a volcano crater! And of course, after your safari, what could be better than a spot of tropical island bliss on the Spice Islands of Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia? Human civilization originated in the historical Oldupai area. So, whether you're after bush, beach, history, or culture, Tanzania has it all in spades.

Should you wish to be even more adventurous, ask us about adding to your Tanzanian safari a gorilla trek in nearby Uganda and Rwanda - or a hop across the border to Kenya for more safari options.

Accommodation in Tanzania ranges from luxury lodge "glamping" to city hotels, beautiful old guesthouses, mobile safari camping, and almost everything in-between.

THE WESTERN CIRCUIT

For the intrepid traveler, the remote areas of Katavi and Mahale are rarely visited, but offer diverse habitats and a safari experience hard to find elsewhere in Africa.

In the Western Circuit, you get to the heart of the bush and leave the  tourist crowds behind. See chimpanzees in their natural habitat at Gombe Stream or Mahale Mountains, see hippos and lions as you  hike through stunningly rich forests.

Enjoy uninhabited remoteness as you visit Tanzania's great lakes: Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Nyasa (Malawi), and Lake Rukwa.

GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK

Gombe Stream National Park is the smallest National Park in Tanzania and home to Jane Goodall's famous chimpanzees. In this park you will witness first-hand its social chimpanzees, terrain that is distinguished by steep valleys, and forest vegetation that ranges from grassland to woodland to tropical rainforest. Hiking and swimming are also popular activities here, and it the ideal setting for a walking safari.

MAHALE NATIONAL PARK

Home to Africa's remaining population of wild chimpanzees, Mahale National Park is also world famous for its elephants, leopards, zebras, roan antelopes, hyenas, wild dogs, giraffes, and buffal. Visit Mahale to enjoy chimp tracking, hiking, camping, snorkeling, and sport fishingon the world’s longest, second deepest and least polluted freshwater lake.

KATAVI NATIONAL PARK

Katavi became national park in 1974, and is the third largest park in Tanzania (roughly 4,500 sq. km.).  This remote park offers diverse, unspoilt landscapes - from the diverse vegetation, woodlands, and floodplains, the park's wildlife includes: buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and elephants, crocodiles, hippos, cheetahs, wild dogs, hyenas, leopards, and lions.

RUBONDO ISLAND NATIONAL PARK

Fantastic for gamer fisherman and bird enthusiasts, (with over 300 species) Rubondo Island National park is one of two Tanzanian National Parks located on an island in Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria is the world’s second-largest lake, and Rubondo Island spans Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. Rubondo has become a sanctuary for threatened wildlife and has seen many species introduced over the years.
