Cultural experiences

East Africa is breathtaking - the culture is very diverse, the people are warm and welcoming, the wildlife is spectacular and the landscape is constantly changing.  This region is a must see for intrepid travelers, and no trip would be complete without learning more about the history of colonialism, independence, and exploring the rich traditions of the people. Savor the delicious food, take in the music, listen to the languages, and absorb the fascinating tapestry surrounding you. Your senses will be delighted and these experiences can be enjoyed by all ages.

There is so much more to do and see in Tanzania than just trekking and safari's. Tanzania is home to 120 different tribes, including the famous Maasai tribe and Bushmen. Make time to take in an African music festival,  walking tours through Stone Town, or visit to Isimila. Tanzania is waiting to show your our beauty and culture.

VISIT WITH MAASAI WARRIORS

Get up close and personal with the nomadic Maasai Warriors during a visit to their village. Explore the herding lifestyle of the Maasai  people whose lively cultural dance, colorful clothing and beadwork have made them famous. While visiting a Maasai village, watch and join in traditional dancing, watching warriors demonstrate how to make fire, food preparation, spear throwing, and jewelry beading. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a great place to visit a Maasai village.

VISIT WITH A HAZDA BUSHMAN

There are roughly 1200 Hazada Bushman living in Tanzania and this indigenous tribe are the descendants of Tanzania's aboriginal hunter-gatherer population. Occupying the area  for thousands of years, they adhere to a life isolated through their remarkably steadfast tradition, and this way of life has changed little in 10,000 years. They live along the shore of Lake Eyasi in northern Tanzania and are hunter gatherers. While modern life threatens their traditional lifestyle they work hard to protect their culture and traditions, and an area has been allocated to them where they can continue to live peacefully following their preferred lifestyle. Plan to spend time in the Serengeti with the Hadza men, to go hunting and participate in the preparation of weapons, and with the the women as they cook and maintain their homes.

ISIMILA STONE AGE SITE

The dramatic landscape of the Isimila archaeological site is also a must see. As one of the most significant Stone Age finds ever identified, you can walk among the eroded sandstone pillars and visit the museum to see tools found on the site include hammerstones, axeheads, flints and scrapers that are estimated to be between 60,000 and 100,000 years old.
